Alexander T. Mason
Alex serves as Senior Advisor and assists NYPF with marketing, client strategy and deal analysis. Alex has extensive experience managing financial service practices focused on companies and entrepreneurs operating in the middle market.
Alex previously served as President and Chief Operating Officer of CIT Group (NYSE: CIT). While there he managed its operating businesses through a period of significant dislocation and helped to orchestrate the transformation of CIT, a 100 year old independent finance company, into a regulated bank holding company, a move directly resulting from the financial crisis of 2008/2009. Subsequently he led the successful restructuring of CIT by means of a 38 day pre-packaged bankruptcy at the parent holding company. CIT is the largest financial services company to successfully emerge from a bankruptcy process.
Prior to CIT, Alex was Vice Chairman & Chief Operating Officer and a Director of Mercantile Bankshares (NYSE: MRBK). He was responsible for all banking functions, marketing, strategic planning and human resources. Mercantile was comprised of a family of 11 separately chartered community banks, a mortgage banking subsidiary and an investment & wealth management division. The firm operated approximately 240 branches, had assets of $17.5 billion and was sold to PNC Financial Corporation.
Before joining Mercantile, Alex spent more than a decade heading the global corporate finance practices for Deutsche Bank AG (NYSE:DB) and for Bankers Trust (NYSE:BTNY). A graduate of Princeton University, Alex currently chairs the Advisory Board of the Lyme Disease Clinical Research Center at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He also chairs the Investment Committee and serves on the board of Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore.
